Dominican University Edgehill Mansion | San Rafael

This, 1120-year-old Victorian mansion on the Dominican University campus had been unoccupied and neglected for 40 years. The building was raised and leveled, and a new foundation was provided. It was also seismically upgraded and made accessible for the disabled.

A 2nd egress staircase was added, and the entire building was carefully renovated to preserve its historical integrity. Today, it is used as Classrooms, Offices, and Reception Halls. The campus chapel and campus museum are also located in Edgehill.

A ranch house fixer-upper overlooking the Bay was transformed into a timeless contemporary home using two-story aluminum windows, stucco, and limestone. The well-articulated mass of the building is nestled into the hillside, and the materials blend well into the landscaping. The open floor plan, glass wall, and projecting deck provide magnificent views of the Bay.

An incredibly steep down slope lot required a 3-story home. The elegant stairway, looking out onto stunning views of the Bay, makes circulation between the three floors a delightful experience.
